We could have lost our lives
This Cambodian maid gives me a new surprise every morning.
If today falls on weekend, I think my whole family would have died.
This morning, I woke up, wash-up, made-up, changed. Then, I left my room, heard some sound in the kitchen, coming from the stove. I was thinking “Uh-oh! Is she using my gas stove? She always turn the gas knob the wrong was! Don’t damage it!!”
I rushed down to the kitchen, found out that the knob was turned to the extreme other end, without fire. That is, the gas was coming out, not ignited.
If I had slept for another 2 hours, I think we will all died in our sweet dream.
I quickly opened the door and windows to let go of the gas. Then, I started the stove, as I knew she was trying to boil water. I let it cook and went up to wake the kids.
Came down, found out that the fire was gone, the water was boiled. Upon closer inspection, I was so GERAM that she actually turned, again, the opposite direction, i.e. to the LOWEST HEAT. But the FIRE WAS PUT OFF. I suspect that she blew it off.
So, essentially, the gas was still coming out!!
This is the latest episode of my 10-days old Cambodian maid story.
Oh, not only this, of course, but the other became trivial when compared to this one that almost killed us.

uwwaaaa!!! horrible!!! Faster get her out of your house lah friend, I’m so worried for u and ur family.
ya return her tonight! so dangerous lah this girl…like gila gila like that.
er, are you sure she is a maid ah? sounds pretty scary leh …
as I told ur DH last night, I think our stove has a safety feature to automatically cut off gas flow when there’s no fire. I know mine has it, so I think yours should have it too.
SCARY
wah liao eh…i think high time to send her back to agency for a good talk
Pei Wei/mumzzy/ jazzmint: Ya, I sent her to the agency this morning already. No, not for re-training, but to reject. Got to pay for the levy, medical exam fee & her prorated salary, amounted to about RM850. We are talking about replacing her with Indon maid, so let’s see how in Nov.
Busy Bee/ Anna: Ya, scary. She could have done a lot of other stuff too. Can’t imagine now.
Aiyu: I think you are probably right, coz in 2 incidents, I don’t smell much of the gas smell. But I doubt my mom’s and MIL’s simple gas stoves have that feature. Nevertheless, it is still dangerous. You don’t know whether this feature would fail or not, right?
