Preparing for Kapar Visit
Last Friday, I joined my ex-boss to help pack for their Kapar visit (5 Oct). I couldn’t contribute much, so I tried to help out.
I had this loads of donations from Pei Wei – 8 sets of brand new baby clothes, some used-yet-still-new adult clothes, some toiletries, and many packs of milk powder for Kartik (check out this post on what happened to Kartik).
Here are the new clothes:

Lots of toiletries:

We went to one of the volunteer’s house to pack for their scheduled Kapar visit. We have donors who contribute some staple food, like rice, potatoes, anchovies (ikan bilis) etc. And we have cash donations, which we used to buy onions, kacang dhal, etc.
All these loose bulk purchases, needed to be re-packed into individual packs, so that it is easier to distribute. There are 27 homes, but we packed 30 just in case.
Here are the anchovies:

It was the easiest to repack, less messy. The rests are a lil dirty, especially the onion. We ended up made the floor full of soil from potatoes, and onion skin. A lot of onions were rotten, guess that’s the disadvantage of buying cheap in bulk.
Finally, we had all the anchovies, potatoes and onion packed into 30 small bags each:

Then, we put one of each into larger bags, together with sugar, flour, canned sardine, and some wafer biscuits. Each bag became quite heavy. Honestly, after packing and moving the packs around, I started aching –> it shows how unfit I am!! Been talking about doing some exercise, now going to start work already still haven’t done much. :p
And here are the end of our packing, we have these 30 sets of food to be distributed to Kapar families. Each consists of dried food (sugar, flour, canned sardine, waffler biscuits, onion, potatoes, anchovies), cooking oil and rice grains. Some families will be given toiletries from Pei Wei. Kartik will receive some milk powder and diapers.

Some leftovers were aimed to be given to one of the chosen old folks home (Shanti Home). At the back to the photo is a set of mattress with blanket and pillow – it is for the homeless project.
Here is the rice distributed on Saturday:

They also prepared this box of stationeries, to be given to the school children in Kapar, to help them prepare for their upcoming examination.

In each bag, there is colour pencils, pencil box with some stationeries, etc – basic needs in school.

The wheelchair that we found for Kartik is not available yet. It will be available later this month, as the donor is away in UK.
I didn’t join them to Kapar last Saturday, coz Sat is always my busiest day in a week. And next months visit, falls right on my first day start work. Looks like I will not be able to participate much in this, except for donations.
We are starting a new website for this project in Kapar. I am helping to creat a blog for them, but still waiting for instructions. Will share with you once the site is up.
In the meantime, if you are interested to help out the poor villagers, but worry that the donations are not used to the cause, you can donate food (dried, e.g. rice, flour, sugar, cooking oil, etc). Just to emphasize that all donations were used to buying things for the villagers. None of the ppl involved in this community project receive any ‘salary’ or benefits in kind — they are 100% volunteers.
I really salute the owner of the house, who is so kind to let us pack the food, and even cook lunch for us. Her family is so generous!!

wow, that was a huge collection for the Kapar villagers! Very happy for them
and u guys did a great job too!
when is the next visit ar? I still have some new tees, for teenager and adult. Yesterday digged out more from my 2nd home
also got another bag of used adult clothes too. mau ka?
Pei Wei: Yes, yes. Mau, mau. Actually there is a project to get each one of them new clothes for their deepavali. They got your batch of new clothes, but certainly not enough for everyone. They are sorting out, and then going to top up for the rest of the villagers. One pc per person, is our aim. The used clothes will be useful, but not that exciting as getting new clothes for their festive.
Both also want. Your used clothes are quite good in condition, unlike some even donating their used and torn underwear!!! Can you believe that?!
oooo that is Ripley’s Believe or Not – torn underwear episode
ok will contact u again to pass to u the baju ya.
I hv some baby clothes too…. pretty new. will pass to you.
Hi,
I have some used (but still in good condition) baby clothes that my 2 kids have outgrown.
How do I pass this to you? I am working in PJ.
I can also ask around my colleagues in office and am sure we will be able to get more stuff.
Rgds
Vivian
Vivian/Piggy: Yes, yes! Would love to have them. If you have used toys, strollers, etc, all baby related goods, we want!! Piggy, you can pass to me when we meet. Vivian, I can meet you somewhere that you are comfortable. I’ll email you when I get home later.
