Fear of old age
Lately, our family has been facing a few ‘death scares’. It started with my grandma…
She fell down few months ago and broke her leg. After some surgeries, she is still unable to walk due to ‘unbearable pains’. We have been asking her to walk as asked by the doctor (at least to the bathroom!), she became very unhappy and cursed the whole family everyday.
Few weeks ago, she suddenly fell more ill and stopped cursing or scolding. She was half conscious and asked to see each family member. So, we were all summoned home to see her for the ‘last time’. Yup, everyone thought she is dying (like in the drama!)
When I arrivee, situation was gloomy. Then one uncle asked whether they brought a doctor or not. That was the turning point of the whole drama. When finally a doctor arrived, he said that she needed to be hospitalized due to low blood sugar and fever, etc.
After she is discharged, she is now very weak. She sleeps most of the time. Really sad to see her like that.
Another case is with DH’s grandpa. He was like my grandma, a few cases of low blood sugar, in and out of hospital many times. Finally he cannot walk any more. The key issue with him is that he smokes a lot (5-8 PACKS of cigerattes a day if he can afford!).
On New Year Eve, when we were having dinner in KLANG, a phone call – DH’s grandpa threw out and passed out black stuff, and it is believed to be blood clots. So, after dropping me and the kids, they rushed to the hospital.
The whole New Year day DH and his family were at the hospital. Apparently his stomach ‘burst’ and needed operation immediately. The chance of survival is 50:50, so it was a gamble (if no op, 100% die!).
Sigh! Now looking at these, makes me wonder, whether long life is a good or bad thing? I think if I have a lot of money to hire specialist nurses and live in nice old folks home, I don’t mind long life. If I have no money, and to live longer life is a burden to my family, I better die quickly.
Just wonder how much money is enough for this?

no point thkg about it..we hv no control over these thgs anyway. all we can do is ..continue to live a fruitful life..with passion, love, care for others and self….jus be good life.

Wsl: hmmm… To be exact it is not the ‘fear’ feeling – it is worry. I just feel that I don’t want to trouble others, so must plan now. Insurance is to cover my own funeral and to provide support to my kids. What about old age when life insurance is unable to help? How much to save to enable the support without burdening others? These are in our control, aren’t they?
