You are hand-picked but so does everyone else
Last week, I received this email from a bloggers network site. The email really reads extremely well, really good in buttering any one’s ego.
Hi Suzette,
I am responsible for the featured blogs program at ABC Project, a life-experience sharing community reaching nearly 1.5 million people every month, and discovered your blog through the blogroll of one of our featured blogs. We are always on the lookout for high-quality bloggers to feature to our community, and I thought that your blog would be of interest to our members. I’d like to feature your blog and invite you to join this group of hand-picked high-quality featured bloggers.

Well, I know my blog isn’t that great. And I know if she wants to feature me, just feature lah, no need to ask me to join the network, bla-bla-bla.
But curiosity kills the cat. I still went over to check it out. It confirms my doubt. It is just trying to fish for more members to join them. It is just trying to expand its network. Tell me, who don’t like to be as succesful as Facebook, Youtube, etc?
First, the site is Free for anyone who has a blog and interested to join. So, any ah-pig ah-dog also can join. Anyone drops by can just join. They don’t need to be hand-picked.
Secondly, they asked new members to provide email account to access the address book, so they can spread the word to all your contacts. Similar to the same tactic Facebook, WAYN, etc. So, again, these contacts aren’t really hand-picked for their quality blog.
So, all in all, they did a good job to create my curiosity, but I know better that they did not really mean it when they said my blog has good quality lah, they hand-picked me lah, etc. Go away, don’t waste my time.

Yup, some sites are really good at attracting new members. Well, internet is really a place fulls of deceptions and lies. Therefore, we , as users, have to be very careful because we don’t really know whether that is the truth or not.
Actually, you’re wrong
We DID mean what we said. Thanks for checking us out, and I understand if you’re not interested at this time, but I did want to make it clear we did hand-select the people we invited. There are millions of blogs out there, and we invited just a few.
Wishing you the best!

arron: Thanks for responding, and considering this blog. Sorry if I offended you.
I was just wondering, if you did handpick a few, why when I checked the site out, I found out anyone can just join without invitation?

I have been invited to so many networks, just got to be selective, coz really don’t have the time to maintain every membership.
Your blog IS GREAT.
