My sister bought a new SandDisk SD card, 4GB. But she couldn’t use it on whatever device she intended (I think is Nintendo DS). She knew I have a 2GB SD card for my Nikon. After testing the 4GB SD card on my Nikon and works well, she generously swap the card with me.

It was a win-win situation, coz I have a bigger SanDisk SD for my camera, and she has a bigger (than her current) but caplang brand SD for her DS.
After using it happily to snap some photos & videos of Ian & Isabel, today I wanted to download and blog about them (hehehe, some are 3 weeks old).
Then… after slotting it into the SD card slot, I heard the sound ‘doo-deed’ (indication that it is detected), but I couldn’t find it in the system. I just cannot find it!
Well, before this I have been a little worried, because even with the 2GB card, I can only use 1 GB. Once it passes 1GB, I can see the file names on my laptop, but cannot view, open or download – the laptop would hang. Those files, however, were not lost. DH’s laptop can access them. So, it is just my old laptop’s problem.
Now, with the 4GB card, I completely can’t see it in the Window Explorer.
This makes me feel more grateful and welcome the new laptop. When can it arrive? I really anxious… hopefully not next year. LOL!
For the time being, I will have to photoshop instead. :p

The one your sis bought is an SDHC card, older SD devices are not compatible.

Charsiu: Aiyoh! So chim ah! I didn’t even notice the word SDHC at all! So I guess my laptop and my sister’s DS are the ‘old devices’. She could use it in her laptop but not DS. I could use it on my camera but not laptop. DH’s laptop okay, tested last night. So hopefully with my new laptop this is not a prob. Btw it will take another 21 working day for it to arrive. That is 1 month! Dunno how to tahan. Hahaha!
Yep is because is SDHC , I had a simiar problem
Don’t fret. Just use a disk management and work on it. just you need to update the drivers and initialise it BEFORE using.
Thus why I hate SD! It does NOT matter if HC or not, just the addressing needs to be tweaked. I normally format them on NTFS first, because FAT is capped at 1GB!
Boot a linux livecd like KNOPPIX and you can still use it.

treadmill: So, what did you do? Upgrade your device?
azrin: Wow, this sounds really complicated to me. :p
Well, the company has very strict IT policy, can’t use anything apart from the ’standard’ stuff. Not even FTP!!
