This thing about being environmental
Well, it is actually quite headache (and troublesomw), to help the environment – not easy. Okay, most of the things we do, has the consequences to the place we are living in. The water we drink, the bath we take, the journey we make, what we eat, what we do, etc. EVERYTHING!
And now, people talk about using own shopping bag for their grocery shopping. Ya, this Envirosax sounds great. It makes environmental trendy as well. Who doesn’t want to carry a nice and beautiful grocery bags like the ones below?

And the kids series are just so adorable:

But, but, but… The big BUT is that, on one hand I want to save the environment by not using more plastic bags, but on the other hand I need the plastic bags to pack the garbage at home.
I can imagine if I start using these Envirosax bags, within just 2 weeks I will be running out of plastic bags for my garbage. If I cook daily, I would need at least 1 bag a day.
I am really curious to know what those people use for their garbage, if they really shop with Envirosax, or any homemade grocery bags. Don’t tell me to dump them in the bin only, coz the garbage truck guy will not collect it, and it is not hygienic as well.
Okay, enough curiosity, I’ve decided to get some of these Envirosax for a try. I checked out the site, they don’t deliver to Malaysia. I was so disappointed coz I wanted to use my PayPal money, less pinch to my pocket. :p
Then, I searched up and down, asking people like allthingspurple, didn’t realize the answer is just right here in this blog itself! One of my frequent commenter,Tiny Tapir, is the answer! Her store carries the most complete set of Envirosax! It has more complete stock than the US site and the best thing is – Tiny Tapir is here in Malaysia, so I save shipping cost!
Do you know how happy I am to find out? I know I am a bit outdated… :p
And here are the sets that I am very interested in. Won’t you think they are nice? Just hope that I won’t put this unused later, just like what I did with my kids’ cloth diapers. :p
The Mikado set:

The Monochrome (‘men-friendly’):

I am going to get one from Tiny Tapir. Very excited to see the product!

hi there..
you can also find envirosax at :

happy shopping!
I have the same issue: I need the plastic bags for my gabbage…
Ya, i too need plastic bags for garbage! anyway, the Evirosax is quite pretty:)
true, after being environmental friendly for a few months, I discover I didn’t have enough plastic bag to go around for garbage, so now I am back to getting plastic bag from groceries. I still use tiffin to ta pau soupy noodle though. It’s healthier for the kids although i get funny stares
I have one from the Mikado set, the brown one that the model is carrying
My mom still gets plastic bags from the grocery so we’re not totally down to zero plastic bags. I guess the key is just to cut down. Take note that when we don’t use reusable bags (whether Envirosax or not), the plastic bags tend to overflow at home.
I am guessing its all about balance, right? I know my family cant right away become environment friendly, but bit by bit we will. There is too much dependency on non-environmental stuff around in our life. Every bit matters…
By the way, check my wife’s Organic Corner section of our site – its quite a selection.
halina: thanks for the link. I bought it from tiny tapir already. She has many selections!
I am so happy now, got new ‘toys’. :p
yiwen: LOL! We all the same ya?!
Iris: Hehe, although I need the plastic bags for garbage, I still bought the envirosax coz it is pretty. See, being nice can really convert us. LOL!
allthingspurple: Well, a lot of aunties also do that wat. I’m not saying you like aunties, I too, tahpau with own containers, especially for hot food, coz don’t like to use plastic, afraid got bad chemicals too!
Vera: One is enough?
Well, I think we are actually already quite concious when it comes to plastics. We take less than we need when we shop. We usually use the ones we already holding and reject more (even when buying in a different shop). So, we end up having just enough plastic bags for current usage. So, is like every 2 weeks we get 4-5 plastics, which sometimes already not enough. LOL!
Spiffy Baby: Ya, you are right! Will check out your organic section.
Thanks for sharing that!
Hi Suzette
– got an order from one of your readers already – thanks for that!
I’m looking into getting the biodegradeable bin liners into Tiny Tapir, but I am researching a lot to get the right type – not the one that just breaks down into tiny plastic molecules (still polluting, just can’t see it with the naked eye), I want the ones that are made out of starches or natural products that break down in composting.
Anyway, the key is to do what we can, not to be ‘perfect’. So using 30% less plastic bags is still better than always using plastic bags right!
i just think that its hard to remeber to bring my own grociery baggs
tinytapir: Glad to hear that!
I have received my goods, but haven’t really gone out doing serious shopping yet. LOL!
Jersey: I think with the Envirosax, so trendy and easy to carry, always keep it in the car glove compartment, it will help to remember.
me2, i need plastic bags as well.
Now you can get First choice oxo-biodegradable garbage bags at cold storage and also at giant! Yahoo! Now I dun have to feel so guilty about my plastic garbage bags!
inveigle – cool, will have to go check that out

[...] Remember I bought some reusabler plastic bags from Tiny Tapir earlier? It was mentioned in this post about being environmental. [...]
inveigle: Thanks for sharing and good to hear that. I will also check it out.
tinytapir: Have you checked the bags out? Are they really biodegradable or the type that breaks down into tiny plastic molecules only? Curious to find out from expert like you.
Hi again, far as I know oxo biodegrable bags are supposed to completely disintergrate in a compost bin after 2- 3 months because of the claim that they are made from corn starch. Landfills are a different story. The process may take longer or they still may be some remnants left. But much better than the original plastic bags which retains their form for 20- 30 years….
inveigle: Wow! Thanks for the explanation. Whew, never know so much about plastic bags. :p
