My contribution to the environment

I have been buying lunch from the lunch van near the office for quite some time. It is very economical and tastier than the canteen’s food. With 2 veggies, it costs RM2.5 or 2.8 before fuels price increase, and it is RM3.0 now. Still a lot cheaper than the canteen. Before price increse, it used to be RM3.80 or RM4.50 for the same food I take.

But then, everyday I bring back the styrofoam (spelling?), I feel very guilty. Coz I created another bad rubbish for the Earth. Been feeling guilty for a while, and finally I did something, which I should have done long time ago…

packed food

I brought my own container to the van to pack my lunch! Not only it saves the guy some cost (and continue to serve us cheaper food), it also saves the environment one rubbish per day!

You know, when I was eating from that box for the first time, I felt so happy with myself. I am so proud of myself that I am a person of action, not just talk (or write!). Cheh-wah! :p

But seriously, more people should do this. Look at our surrounding, think of our kids and the future. We are living in a planet that we borrow from our offsprings, it does not belong to us. Together, we can make a difference. :)

That’s a good idea. I’m not sure if you can do it there, but a lot of good coffee shops here in Australia will let you bring in your own coffee mug (as long as it’s clean of course) and they fill it for you. At least that means there’s a few less cardboard coffee (or plastic) cups going to landfill.

Every little bit helps I reckon.

Good for you!…but did the seller look at you all weird?

I was planning to use my own grocery bag during grocery shopping.

Yes, together we can do it ! :D

MG: Hehehe, felt good, but also a bit odd. :p

Kath: I remember 8 years ago when I was seconded to work in Singapore, the restaurants already started accepting this. They even offer discounts to people who bring their own containers. Very good right? :)

lil prince: :) Care joining us on this?

paupau: No wor, surprisingly he seems very understanding and even ‘thank’ me (maybe for saving his 1 lunch box?).

      Ola Nuffnanger!

The problem is that most people don’t frickin’ bother! I’m not sure if you have experienced this but sometimes you go through all the trouble to bring YOUR own bag to the supermarket so that you won’t have to use their plastic bags and the STUPID DIM-WITTED cashier person INSISTS that you use THEIR PLASTIC BAG!

But really how awesome that you have done your part!

Besides doing what I can now, I have made a resolution that at my funeral, there shall be no burning or incense or candles or whatever. Instead, everyone who attends is required to plant a plant (not necessarily a tree, though I daresay I’d like one of those on top of my grave) but a plant. Also, I believe I should get myself one of those new Japanese cardboard coffins that are biodegradeable. Saves pine trees for being chopped down needlessly

Well come to environmentalist club hehehe. I always bring my own food container (store them in the car), groceries bags (I use envirosax) and my own spoon and chopsticks wherever I go. I received so many weird stared but I don’t care hehehe

hey, good for you. I have started packing food to work instead. And when I started cloth diapering about 1 1/2 years ago and using envirosax for shopping instead of plastic, I have also been like you, taking a lock and lock to the chak fun stall, and taking a tiffin carrier for ta-pau-ing soup noodle for the kids. People look at me funny but I am glad there is company. haha.

Cyren: Wow! That extent! I haven’t thought of it that far. Hahaha!

elwi: I am so interested in this envirosax. Where can I get them?

allthingspurple: Ei, I want to ask about this envirosax too. Saw from its site very nice, but dunno if I can get in KL? Also, one question I am very curious about you guys using your own grocery bags:
What do you use for your garbage, since you don’t take the plastic bag from the shops?
