You think a 2-yr old doesn’t know anything?
Isabel is just 2 years old. Though she seems to be blur and not aware of her surrounding (unlike Ian), she actually learnt a lot of things by heart and never show out.
——-
Lately, she suddenly sings out a lot of songs, which apparently she learnt and memorized quietly. She shows her attention on other songs I sing and would enquire the name of the song. This morning, as I was humming a new song to her, she asked, “What song is this?” (yes, exactly this phrase…)
——-

Last night when I made her a cup of milk, I used the wrong mug – Ian’s mug (left). When I put her down, she turned the mug around and said, “Not Isabel nen-nen (milk)!”
I didn’t get it at first, then she screamed in frustration, “This is kokoh one!”
Then only I realized that I’ve used the wrong cup. She insisted that I use her mug before she would drink from it! So, have to change that back to the Winnie The Pooh’s mug.
That also means that she actually paid attention on her mug and noted the cartoon printed on it. So, who said she is blurr and not aware of things? I have to admit I’ve underestimated her. LOL!

Very often it is hard to let my children sleep, because they are just too active – playing on their bed too much. Out of frustrations, sometimes I would make some noice to scare Isabel. She is very chicken – a little noice she would burry her head in the pillow, and the next moment she would be asleep.
I have been doing this too many times that Ian found out later – that I used my toes to scratch on the edge of the bed frame. He often breaks my secret, but Isabel still unknowingly scared about the sound.
I thought she never hear Ian whenever he finds out. But then…
On Sunday morning, when I was still lazing in my bed, I abused using this method to make Isabel lie on bed again… Just as I thought it should scare her… she suddenly said, “YOU! Leg! Sound!”
Hahaha! Ya, what she meant was, “This sound is made by your legs!”
what a smart girl, she finally found my secret! :p

Two year olds are very smart and very aware of whats going on around them. Just because their communication skillz are fully developed yet, doesn’t mean they don’t know exactly what you are saying and doing.
You know, my son did the same sort of thing and it took me a second to realize that he notices and remembers much more than I thought he would, or gave him credit for. Then I felt bad, because I wasn’t meaning to suggest he wasn’t smart… he’s just smarter than I imagined!
Children are a lot more observant than we adults think. That’s why it’s so important for us to be good ourselves because they will learn far more by what they see than what we tell them. Having kids make you want to be a better person
And you really think a 2 years old doesn’t know anything? haha… sometimes even 1 year old able to do that. My niece and nephew are smart enough to do that. However, winnie the pooh might be her favorite that’s why she notice. If something doesn’t capture her attention, she’ll definitely fall for it.
spicybug: You are right, in fact I have to admit I often underestimate my girl because she always seem to be not paying attention on ANY thing!
Cindy: Hehe, I feel guilty too because I often underestimated her. :p
EMYYL: Actually I’ve never look at Ian this way, because he shows a lot of attention in anything we say and do, and asks a lot of questions. Unlike her brother, Isabel is aways not looking at us when we speak, not following instructions, never bother to even look at us! Not knowing that she actually absorbs all even appears not paying attentions. LOL!
hyperX: Hehe, you are right, the “YOU” in this post title is addressed to myself. :p
Ya, I thought she doesn’t know anything, but I was wrong! :p
