Mama, I carry you

Published by suzette at 8:57 pm under All,Isabel

kids lift momThe other day, while I slept with the kids, Isabel crawled over me, slept on top of me – treating me like a bolster.

While doing that, she whispered in my ears: Mama, I carry you…

So cute, she always confused between certain words. Actually she refers to HUG, but she says CARRY. :)

Apart from that, she also confused between some words below. In fact, when Ian was at her age, he used to get confused with these as well!

“How are you” vs “How OLD are you”
Sometimes when asked “how are you?”, the answer is “2 years old”. Or, “how old are you” gets answered “I’m fine, thank you.”

“Some More” vs “Again”
This only happens for Isabel, not Ian. When I gave her some water, for instance, if too little she’d say, “Again!” I sometimes got confused, especially if there is a lag of time after I gave it to her. Imagine someone come to you and kept saying, “Again” out of sudden?!! :)

Actually Isable seems to be very obedient and understanding most of the time, but actually that is because she doesn’t understand! For example, if she wants to eat something that I only allow during the day, I’d explain to her and ask if it is okay that we have it at home in the morning. She’d be obediently say “Yes”. But… the moment you keep it away, she’d scream and cry and still insist that she eats it on the spot.

Talk about confusion? Not sure if we confused her or she confused us. Hahahaha!

That is adorable, I just love it when little kids talk, all that innocence and sincerity is just cute.

My daughter has the same problem of understanding “how are you” and “how old are you” but in Mandarin… :_(

How old is your daughter? She’s cute from what you storied. But actually, the meaning of “again” and “some more” are quite near, therefore both word can be used for the scenario you mentioned. But really, I’ve wonder whether are they trying to confuse us or we are the one who confused them.

Since we’re our son and daughter first teacher, and we are the one who teach them these words, there should be no doubt who’s the guilty party for all these confusion, right? There are no stupid student, only stupid teacher. And I’m one of them. :)

Ashley is the same. She says, “Aidan push you” instead of “Aidan push me” and ” you came with you” instead of “you come with me”. scratch , scratch , scratch. Yet most times, she form perfect little sentences.

Ada: Ya, the innocent talks are so adorable, right? :)

happy xokodo: Haha! Looks like this is a universal confusion, whether in English or Mandarin!

Superman: Ya, when I told my friend the other day, she also says the 2 ‘again’ and ‘some more’ can be used interchangeably… :) Guess we also confused them!

Buzzing: You are right, maybe we are all lousy teachers! :p

allthingspurple: Oh, I was like that when I was a baby. I confused between ‘you’ and ‘me’. Ian was confused for a while but only a very short while, and Isabel occassionaly used it wrongly too!
