Successfully weaned off Isabel
10 days after I started weaning Isabel on breastfeeding, I then dare to tease her by asking her to breastfeed.
Guess what? She laughed and turned away, at the same time saying “Don’t Want” loudly!
When offered a few more times, she got panic and ran away.
Hmm… I feel a kind of emptiness, though at the same time I was happy with the ease of weaning and the success/relief of it.
I guess only a breastfeeding mom who has gone through the weaning process would understand the empty feeling.
Isabel is a big girl now. She is officially graduated from breastmilk.

Ah, the bittersweet emotions that comes with every milestones
Felt the same too when I weaned my son. Looking back it seems silly but I was rather ‘disappointed’ that he went off so easily. And each time he passes a milestone (eg.wearing bigger clothes, getting more independant, etc.), I feel he’s growing too fast.
EMYYL:
Hey, you are so right about the ‘disappointment’ that they get to wean off so easily! Children always outgrow our expectations…
I know exactly what you mean – gonna blog about my experience soon too.
I breastfeed my daughter for almost a year now. Am cutting down from pumping 3 times during working hours to 2 times, but also notice the amount persession stay the same ( hence 3 times-total12oz, 2 times-total8oz). wonder when you start pumping less frequently?, and when you are with baby on nonworking days, will you supplement with cow’s milk or formula, or just feed on demand still. as I am afraid as i pump less, production also less and may not able to feed my daughter enough.
cllau: Did you come from MMB? thanks for dropping by. Kudos to you for successfully bf for a year already!
I think once your body has established the amount and routine, what you are doing should be fine. Furthermore, your girl has already started solid, can get enough nutrition from food already.
I stick to 3 hourly, and only reduced to 4 hourly when I see a sign of lower deman — either baby drink less frequent or the stock of frozen milk is getting more and more!
I never supplement with cow’s milk until I wanted to wean her. No harm to supplement, but I just don’t want to, furthermore my supply was more than Isabel’s demand anyway.
