Started my second weaning process
I have finally started my second weaning on 1 Feb 08. That marks 20 months breastfeeding for Isabel, an improvement from Ian’s 17 months.
Well, Isabel still wanted to be breastfed, but I’ve decided to give it a stop. The main reason is that, I’ve noticed Isabel has been suckling for comfort and not for the milk itself. I also doubt how much she actually drank each day, perhaps less than 2 oz.
She’d cry for ‘nen-nen’, but the moment she has it, she just kept it in her mouth – no suckling, no motion, nothing! And she wanted my nipples to be kept inside until she is asleep. That is not right, she is treating me like a pacifier already.
As she has been waking up at 4am doing this trick everyday, I’ve decided it is time to stop.
Anyway, first day was fine, she accepted bottle with formula very well. But second night was a bit proof of her suckling for comfort – when I gave her the bottle, she drank only 1 oz and gave it away. Then, pointed at me and said ‘nen-nen’ again.
Though my aim was 24 months, I am pretty happy with this results. Though I’m sure I will miss it, a special bonding with my kid…, I am sure it is also a relief for me. Breastfeeding with lots of business travel is really not easy, and the no-liquid airline policy is adding more challenge too. I’m glad it is all over soon.

Good job! 20 months is really a great achievement. I only manage to bf my two boys for 2 months and my girl for 18 months.
My baby started solid food but i still breastfeed her, am not sure until when i’ll do it but for sure it save a lot of money not buying formula milk.
You breastfeed so long, will your baby bite your nipple with their gigi?
Jo-N:
18 months is better than my 1st attempt. LOL!
Stephanie: Yup, it saved me a LOT of money. When started buying formula, then only felt the pain. Hahaha!
BTW, my babies did not bite me intentionally. At some point, when their teeth grow, they would wanted to try but with firm ‘no’, they learnt that it wasn’t allowed. However, there were a coupld of occasions that Isabel fell asleep with my nipple in her mouth, and she accidentally bit — that kind of bite was HORRIBLE, I felt that my nipple was going to be bitten off! But she didn’t mean it, and it was only twice, so far.
Dont act like a step mom.your baby will gradually loose that habbit , be patient.
I’m still in the weaning process (Ethan is 2 years now) – hope to be successful soon. Share with me your thoughts and ideas.
Giddy Tiger: My weaning process ended up quite easy, unbelievably easy. As Isabel wasn’t really feeding for hunger, I just needed to be firm with her, and offer her milk in bottle. It has been 8 days now, and I think it went well!
