RM54k to propose a marriage? Please be more practical lah!
“Better to give me that money!”
This is the common remark I’ve heard in the office today, from nearly all women. Hmm… no, not ‘nearly all’, but ALL. No exception.
Are we getting less romantic nowadays? Perhaps. We are just too practical, maybe?
No, not just married women said that! Today is a bit extra-ordinary. I was the ONLY married woman in the office. All others are not married and they are still eligible. It has nothing to do with marital status, okay?
Alright, just in case someone didn’t read the newspaper today…
This post refers to the headline on The Star newspaper this morning. There was a guy (happen to work in ad agency), spent RM40k on one single billboard along LDP highway. That billboard has a huge photo of him, written:
“Kelly Tan E Li, Will You Marry Me?”
After his girlfriend, Kelly, accepted his proposal, he took out a RM14k diamond ring for her.
All these were done on the most romantic day – the Valentine’s Day yesterday.

Ya, no doubt, that sounds romantic. But we just feel that it is very stupid and a waste of money. We all wonder if they would regret of spending that money on a billboard.
RM40k! Imagine, there is so many things you can do with that RM40k. That is FOUR zeros. It can be put as down payment for a house. It can be used to renovate their existing house (if any). It can be used to safe lots of life, feed a lot of mouth in poor countries.
Seriously, if I were the girl involved, I’d rather my boyfriend spend the money more wisely and more benefiting – at least to the society if not to me. The best is to give me the money and I have 100% say on what I’d use it. Muahahahahaha! How UN-romantic I am. LOL!

i actualy think its plain stupid. I mean 40k for something thats not even tangible!
I’d rather have the RM40k used for a romantic getaway for two to the Maldives and get the proposal done there…lagi romantic. Rather than just get my name on the billboard. :p
Kelly Tan E Li might 4 billion worth for him. Thats call LOVE
Well, to RM54K man, the amount is just petty cash!. All of us have different values when it comes to $$$$ factor..
If one can afford it, why not? It’s good for the whole of Malaysia and the RM54K will definitely go on to stimulate further economic activities.. in Malaysia
waste of money. Maybe he’s a millionaire…else I would prefer to use the money for a Bigger house (a bangalow perhaps)
maybe he got another 54 billion in the bank, 54k is just loose change.
dont compare la, u cheapskate!
Wow..! real waste of good money..!! i rather.. go for a good holiday man..!
Maybe it’s the girlfriend who wanted to be proposed that way? :} I do agree, there are plenty of other ways to have spent the money. If this is only the proposal, can you imagine the wedding, the honeymoon and life after…?The groom-to-be has set a very high benchmark for himself and others(probably half of Msian unmarried men are cursing him now).Guess he will have to crack his head(and wallet) to continuously outdo his initial benchmark. All in the name of love.
That’s the same reaction from my office’s female colleagues too.
‘Pei ngor yoong chung hou la’ (cantonese)…
hahaha..
Some people think money equals romance. Well, there’s a line somewhere.
i think it is an utter waste of money! … not to mention silly.
well .. the plan works well.. successfully. not to get the girl.. but to get everyone talking about it..
[...] Nowadays, wedding proposals are getting more and more sophiscated! Just early this year, we saw a RM54k wedding proposal using billboard. Well, compared to that one, this is definitely a lot more economical and [...]
