The most effective way to clean your pump
If you are a breastfeeding mom who use a breast pump, do you notice white deposits left on the inside surface of the pump and bottles?
This white deposit is very difficult to get rid of. It is actually the fat component of our breast milk, which sticks so hard on the surface and forms a white layers when dry. No brush or cloth can wipe it off, unless you scrape it. But once scraped too much, it forms scratches!
Strange that not everyone has this problem, but I know I’m not alone in this. At least SF, my BFG buddy, also faced the same. Through her, I learnt how to clean my pump most effectively.
The only answer I found is in Medela Quick Clean Wipes.

3 years ago, when I was introduced this by SF, she gave me a piece of this. With a simple wipe on my AI, the white sheet immediately turned yellowish, and I could see the difference in my pump!
I tried to buy this product, but learnt that it was being recalled. It is recalled not due to the product defect, but poor packaging – the wipes dry up too soon.
After waited for 2 years, I finally found it again. It costs me RM69.90, so expensive compared to few years ago!! But it is still worthy. You don’t need to use this everyday. I use it only when my pump seems dirty and whitish.
As I stopped expressing since Sep last year, my Medela PIS has been sitting in the cabinet for 4 solid months. Just before my recent Bangkok trip, I took it out and found in horror that it has fungus grown inside the bottles! Apparently I forgot to dry them up before stowing.
It too us a while to clean them, yet the inside still look dirty. Medela Quick Clean Wipes came to rescue! When I wiped it with just a light stroke, the black colour stuff immediately transferred to the wipe! It is so clean now, like a new one. I’m so glad I bought the wipes. Whew!
If you know of other effective ways of cleaning, have tried it yourself and confirm it works, please feel free to share. Thanks!

MM: I bought from First Few Years in the Curve, 1st or 2nd floor, I can’t remember. You also face the same problem huh!
Mambok: If no choice, really have to buy online. In KL, there is only ONE place to get it! And the store actually imported directly from US.
My Avent pump is stained yellowish - I was thinking of getting a new petal next time I need it. But if you say this works…
Giddy Tiger: I know what you mean.
For the same reason, I actually bought my second AI, that was before this wipes was available again. My old AI was so stained that I worried whether it was still good for the baby or not!
i face the same. in fact have post in MMB but not reply. glad that I found answer here. thanks! you can become pumping sifu liao
cllau: Really? I didn’t see your post in MMB, but then I haven’t been there for a looonnnnggg while liao.
Glad this post helps.
Just tried to clean the white layer in my AI pump funnel. It didn’t clean like magic as I expect , with like stroke. I need to rub the tissue hard against the wall. But it did remove some of white layer though not totally. Probably will try it again next time to get it all clean.
cllau: Sorry to hear that…
Hmm… maybe the stains are ‘old’ so it takes more effort. Hopefully the next time it gets easier for you.
And sorry that I forgot to mention for AI, you need to use the help of a thin chopstick. You need to wrap the sheet around the chopstick to access the narrow funnel. Those are the hard to reach parts that I really hate about AI.
