Breastfeeding benefit: no frill outings

Published by suzette at 6:24 pm under All,Brfg: Others

There are so many benefits of breastfeeding. One of the benefit most breastfeeding moms would not notice until they wean their children is the ease of going out.

For moms who breastfeed, when we go out shopping or one short errands, we just need to take a few pieces of changing clothes and diapers, then leave the house.

Compared to us, those who feed formula milk, apart from changing clothes and diapers, they need to bring: hot water, milk bottle, milk powder.

Not only the packing of these items are messy, the preparation also is troublesome. For us, when baby is hungry, we just need to sit down and feed straight away. No preparations, no tag along of many items, no waiting time for kids…

When going for longer trips that require overnight stays, breastfeeding is even more convenient. Similar to short trips, we just need to bring baby’s changing clothes and diapers.

Mothers who chose formula milk will have to bring many milk bottles, sufficient milk powder, hot water or warmer, bottle cleaner, bottle sterilizer, etc. Going to places without clean water is even more troublesome for them.

For breastfeeding moms, there is no strerilizing required. No washing of milk bottles too. No hot water is required as well.

Seriously, I only realized all the above benefits, after I weaned Ian. It was so easy before weaning him, and now if I have holiday with him I have to pack so many things. LOL!

Of course, there are other benefits, but this one beats the rest in terms of convenience and practicality. Maybe it is true for a lazy mom like me. :P

      i totally agree with you!
but i am so lazy, i made the milk and then bring it out for ryan. while it is no longer warm when he drinks it, he is not complaining, so i guess it is ok : )

but i still find it strange when i share the benefits of breastfeeding with my friends, 9.5 out of 10 will still go ahead and wean their babies by 2 months, cause lazy to pump.

      sad …

Absolutely! I usually tell people I’m just too lazy to use formula. In the time a mom is digging through the bag and trying to make a bottle with a screaming babe I’m practically done. Unsnap bra, insert boob, sit back and relax. No muss, no fuss.

Busy Bee: That’s true, I feel that when someone come to me for tips on weaning, there is no point to convince more already. For mothers who come for weaning tips, 10 out of 10 would still wean, even after I talked till mouth dry!

zewt: Hehe, this convenience is hard to be noticed by a male, but you can definitely share with your wife one day. ;)

Summer: That’s true, so convenient isn’t it? :)

First time here. You’re right. There are many benefits of breastfeeding. But I think unlike the West, Asians still find it hard to find a place to breastfeed their babies when they are out. And people tend to stare sometimes!

hahaha! i agree it is easy for most moms, however please remember that there are exceptions- when i breastfed my baby i would leak an entire bottle of milk from the other breast- in one feed I would have to change my breast shells (to collect the excess milk) at least once…and i couldn’t move while feeding because the shell would move and i would end up covered in milk – an ordinary short outing for me while breast feeding meant i had to take sterilized breast shells, bottles to collect this milk, at least one change of clothes for me, loads of breast pads….i had to wear two at a time most of the time!
I breast fed – despite of this- for 7 weeks but after going onto the bottle i realised that it is so much easier for me – plus it helps that my baby doesn’t mind drinking cold milk!
