Nearly tricked by con woman

Published by suzette at 5:23 pm under All,Miscellaneous

Thursday morning, my mom went to the market. A nice and friendly looking woman smiled at her and then asked: “Hi! I want to…

Before the lady continue, my mom was very alarmed and quickly walked away refusing to listen further. Her instinct told her something wasn’t right about that woman.

When she met with her friends at the coffee shop, she was laughed and teased by them for being super paranoid.

Just a few minutes after they settled down, there were screams and noises nearby. Soon after that, police men came to bring 2 women away.

Later, my mom went to see the lady in the police car and confirmed one was the lady approached her earlier.

This is a small town, my mom knows a lot of the people in the market, and soon found out what has happened after my mom being approached.

Apparently after my mom ‘ran’ away, the lady approached another woman, telling her that she was in deep trouble. She went on to say things about the woman’s family, something bad was going to happen to her, bla bla bla. And then she offered solution, saying that there was a sensei who could help. Then she asked whether the woman has any money in the bank. The woman first denied. But then, this lady asked her to look into her eyes, and asked again –> this time, the innocent said “I have so much, how to withdraw to you?” There she goes.

The con woman gave her instructions to bring all her money and all her jewelleries before letting her off.

This innocent walked confusingly on the road, and our ex-neighbour Mr. B saw her. He asked her what’s wrong. At first she refused to say (instructed by the lady not to tell anyone). Then, Mr. B felt something really not right, and insisted her to cool down, brought her to the coffee shop and asked again. That’s when she told him everything and Mr. B ‘awoke’ her by telling her that she was being conned.

At the same moment, the con woman was still watching her from a distance. Mr. B glanced at her, she immediately ran away. Her partner was at the same time doing this on another lady, but as they needed to run quickly, they’ve decided to take all that lady’s cash. That’s when their ‘spell’ broke, and the lady screamed out loudly. With the help of everyone in the market and coffee shop, the 2 ladies were arrested. Their male partner has fled.

The problem is, this lady with Mr. B didn’t want to make a report, and I’m sure these ladies would be released very soon – taking other’s cash is not as big a crime as the crime they originally planned to. This is already published in newspapers, but many people still fall into the scheme.

Oh, my mom said, the lady’s pat and eyes seem to have some kind of ‘power’. It strucks her with some kind of numbness, straight to the brain. Mom is lucky, she was very alert. Before the incident, her friends asked her why she didn’t listen to what that lady had to say – I guess that’s the mistake many victims make. Once listening to what they say, they tend to be ‘bewiched’ –> if that is really what they’re doing.

Ratu/Aiyu: Before my mom’s personal encounter on this, I thought those people reported in newspapers were blaming on those spells because they were too shameful to admit they were so naive in believing the con man.

However, my mom’s personal experience told me that it is true and possible. She said she really had a kind of ‘electric shock’ feeling, which she felt a chill when recalling them! Sounds scary…

We guess the group of 3 may be newbies in the spell. They might be a ‘fresh grad’, and on their first few practices. Maybe if my mom faced the experienced one, she might not run away easily? Who know? Or maybe my mom’s alert has saved her – she told me she has been practicing this after reading the news. :P

I’ve heard of this before. They are putting people into a hypnotic trance. Touching someone helps bring this on – it bypasses the brain.

It’s sad, but strangers coming up to you in the street with a sob story should be told to eff off; they’re beggars, or conmen. It happens even in London, where I am.
