My precious ‘me’ time
Ever since Ian was born, I rarely have time for myself. Every day, my time is split into 2 –> day time is for my employer, night time is for my kids. They sleep at 8:30pm, so I am expected to sleep at 8:30pm. We wake up at 7am, and then we leave the house - they go to MIL’s house, I go to the office.
Last Friday and Monday I took leave, wanted to have time for myself. I used to try this on my past birthdays as much as possible. This year, as birthday fell on Sunday, I had to delay my ‘me time’.
Friday, I went to the saloon to perm my hair. I guess I must be looking awful after being a mom. I wanted a make over.
Spent a solid 6-hour time in the saloon. This perm is very funny. They curled my hair with rods, and then connected the rods on a machine which heats up the rods. I looked like an alien with a lot of tentacles. ![]()

The result was good. I’m not going to show here, but so far all positive remarks.
In the same evening, I went shopping with my sister. Finally bought 2 pairs of shoes. My old shoes were all terribly worn out, but I had to use them until I bought the new ones.
Two big missions accomplished.
On Monday, another 3 missions accomplished. I brought Isabel for her last jab. The next one would be 7 years old, or 5.5 years from now. What a relief, for me and her. She is smart. She was all okay in the clinic, until the moment the doctor took our the needle kit. She realized immediately what lied ahead! What a smart girl.
In the afternoon, I went to watch movie alone. Kind of a yearly event for me - what to do? Either I watch alone or none at all. I wasn’t a lone ranger in the past, but learnt how to adapt to this now. My ‘me time’ is usually weekdays, who else would be free enough to join me for movies?
I watched Stardust. Laughed till my tears dropped. Strange, I think I was the first person who realized what the captain was wearing (can’t remember his name). I was the first to laugh out loud, then a solid half or one second later the rest of the people in the cinema laughed.
Okay, it is not a comedy, but has funny scenes also.
Got my optical stuff purchased - glasses, sunglasses and contact lens –> my second mission on Monday.
Before leaving the mall, I paid visit to MPH and bought a few books. They don’t carry Ted Dekker’s Circle Trilogy (Black, Red
and White
). The customer service told me they got them from overseas supplier, i.e. charged in USD. If they order for me, it would cost circa RM65 for a paperback. She said buying from Amazon may be about the same price.
I ended up bought Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo (book 1) and Leven Thumps and the Whispered Secret (book 2)
(though I have the audiobook, I really want a copy of paper book!), The Thief Lord
, and a few Roald Dahl’s books to be read to Ian.
Overall, a good holiday for me. Only 1 mission unaccomplished –> I intended to watch 2 movies, didn’t manage to watch Enchanted. May consider watching The Golden Compass in Dec alone, if I can steal some ‘me time’…
