Breastfeeding Mom Kicked Off From Flight
There was this news recently about a breastfeeding mom being kicked off from her flight in US.
The Gilette family was seated at the second last row. The mother took the window seat, and the father took the aisle seat, blocking the mother from views of other passengers.
It was late at night. The mother started breastfeeding her daughter – a common thing that we, breastfeeding mothers, would do, to counter the discomfort in baby’s ears when altitude changes during take-off.
The flight attendant asked her to cover up baby’s head with a blanket, she refused to. Moments later, the whole family was escotted out!
I can’t believe this happens in a country that shout so much on human rights and liberty, freedom thingy.
She was just practicing her rights to breastfeed her baby in public. Covering up the baby’s head? No way! I won’t cover my baby’s head too. Hey, I want to ask the flight attendant to try covering her head up when she is having her meal. See how she feels!
When Ian was younger, he was more cooperative than Isabel when breastfeeding in public. So, I took him onboard twice, both with Air Asia. I had no problems practicing this at all. Furthermore, I didn’t do it discretely. I sat in the 2nd row in front. I didn’t cover up with a blanket. Everyone else were alright with this. No one made a fuss.
I want to tell Delta and Freedom airline that, Air Asia, Malaysian budget airline, respect this better than you. And I’ve never heard of any discrimination of such over here, from any airlines too!
I am all supportive of Ms Gilette’s action. If there is a pettition, I will sign!
For detail, read this. I got it from MMB.

I would definitely support the petition too..!
aiks…that’s teruk lehh..how can they do this
Aiks! Unbelievable. I would have kicked up a huge fuss if they did this to me. I once breastfed Ryan on board an AirAsia flight too and the crew just nodded with a smile. I actually thought America would have been more open about this!
Mama Bok: There is a petition, I found out. But only for US citizens… They also have a nurse-in last week Mon. I think the FA really learnt the lesson…
jazzmint: ya loh, I can’t imagine if this happens to me.
May Li: You bet you can kick up a huge fuss! Now, with ther terrorist threats onboard, the FAs are so BIG. They can arrest you under the terrorist act thingy, I think. That’s why have to be low profile, even if you are being treated like that.
I also thought US should be more open, but aparently not. I also read from a site where a guy debated with a lady on why we need to breastfeed publicly wor. Read also geram already.
