Direct vs Bottle Feeding

Published by suzette at 12:55 pm under All, Breastfeeding, Brfg: Tips/ Opinion

I have a friend who prefers bottle feeding EBM.  According to her, the benefit is that she knows how much baby is taking in each feed and that assures her a lot.

Well, for me, I prefer direct feeding more than anything else.  The main reason is — I am very lazy to express BM, to the extent that I hate pumping!  Imagine, I’ll have to pump many times after returning to work, why should I pump now if I don’t have to?  :)

Of course, there are a lot of other benefits of direct feeding.  These are the few that touch my heart most.

First, it is the bonding and closeness I can have with my child.  Believe me, when the positioning is correct, you can feel that the child is so closed to you, just like being part of you.  The feeling is so good!

Another benefit is, direct feeding is the best stimuli for milk production.  Baby is the most effective breast pump.  No pumps in the market can immitate baby’s suction 100%.  Even after ‘emptying’ the breast with whatever best breast pumps in the market, if you let baby latch on, you can still have let-down reflects after baby sucks for a while.

Therefore, with direct feeding, I don’t have to worry of not getting enough EBM to feed.  Less stress, and enjoy the bonding.  ;)

err… with direct feeding… the baby is also trained to be stronger… becoz sucking from the breast is harder than from a bottle :)

      Hi,

I have been a silent reader of your blog. Really admire you on your discipline to stock up EBM.

Hope you don’t mind me asking this. How do you store your EBM (jars, plastic bags, etc) and how do you warm them up for use?

shoppingmum: Yup, not only that, to reach the target that I want is actually quite stressful. Sometimes pumped so long but no let-down, which makes the yield so little. Trying hard to relax, is actually also a stress. :P

      mamabok: Hahaha!

Annie: :P Paiseh, no lah, make me kembang saja. :P
OK, I’ll try to answer your question in a post. :)
