Painful EPF Withdrawal Process (Part 2)

Yesterday, DH spent another day running between the bank and EPF.

It was confirmed what they sent to us, the so called Deed of Assignment, was actually the bank’s offer letter, and it was not acceptable by EPF. After such a long wait and paid RM25 for it! @#$@#$*(&!

DH called from the EPF office, and this terrible Standard Chartered Bank staff, dare to say that they are the same. He said Deed of Assignment and Assignment are the same stuff.

First of all, if they only have Assignment or Letter of Offer (are they even the same stuff??), they should not write something else in the letter. When they put down in the letter: ‘Deed of Assignment’, EPF will need to see a document that says exactly the same.

Secondly, to EPF (and actually to us too!), Deed of Assignment and Offer Letters are two completely different things!

I really don’t know what is the status now, and how to proceed. Now another 3 months nearly passed, another 3 months interest on our loan. Feel so sick of it. SCB should change name to CCB.

Ya, sometimes really gotta learn from the Singaporeans — lodge a complaint, or else we will never see improvements.

And btw, i have zero faith in the service level of all the banks in Malaysia except one (with name starts with a P). Really, tried other banks before and that particular one is still the most efficient of all.

egghead: who to complain? bank negara? If i complain to the same cheaty bank, I believe no action will be taken, or just some corporate standard reply ‘we will look into it’.

contented mum: what to do? still have to deal with them, otherwise how to get our EPF money out, right? :(

Pinpin: really? I had a problem with the P bank in the past, when I was still a student. I was shouted by a low rank official publicly, when I queried him why I had waited 2 hours and other people came after me got served first. I was insulted till I cried, and I went to the manager’s room to complain about this guy. He just asked his guy to apologise to me only. I immediately closed my account on the same day and never walked in any more. :p Now, I love HSBC a lot!

jefferene: Yup, whether international or local, the attitude is the same lah!

Suzette, the offer letter is the first letter you received from the bank after applying for the bank loan, way before any Loan agreement is signed. It took me 3 wks to get my 2nd EPF withdrawal for a 2nd house to be approved by EPF and yes, it was initially rejected due to nil submission of the bank’s offer letter which is different from DoA.And you shud register for an EPF free e-account,to chk yr EPF current sts and past transactions done. Give it a shot and all the best!

Richie: thanks for the note. 3 weeks for 2nd withdrawal is very fast compared to my case. We made the EPF officer talked to the bank officer, even her also felt sick of the bank, coz the bank requested another 2 weeks to get another document ready - which, to the EPF officer, is way too long. Can’t believe private’s timing is worse than the govn’s timing! And, thanks for the advice on e-account. Will try that. :)

Huh, such a bad experience! So far, all the branches of P Bank that i had been to (in JB) were of good service level. Perhaps the standards vary from branches to branches. And ya, i agree. HSBC is good.

msau: i got all doc from lawyer, but there was no such thing as DA. And now, apparently there was no such thing back in year 2000! Even the bank themselves also don’t have it! And yes, for my new house purchased last year, there was this DA too. When we withdrew in year 2003, it was not required and we didn’t have any problems with EPF too! Such a terrible and confusing system, I think.
