Water, Water, Water!
Ian loves drinking water. Sometimes he can substitute his milk with just plain water.
When he was still very small, when he first started learning to speak, one of the first few things that he knew was ‘water’, which was frequently mistaken by my mom who doesn’t know English, as ‘我的’ (mine)!
When he asks for water to drink, he likes to say it in 3 times:
“Water, water, water!”
As a result of his frequent drink of water (and large volume), he also pees a lot.
He can drink the whole 9oz of plain water when he is about to sleep. There is no way I can stop him, or he will be very angry.
He pees so much at night, that even Mamy Poko diapers also cannot hold his urine. Sometimes at 6am I would need to change his diaper as it just leaks! The diapers, at this stage, would weigh like a brick!
When I took part in a diaper test survey, I was given 20 diapers to let Ian try. During the post usage interview, I told the interviewer how much leakage I had and how dissatisfied I was with the test diapers. She just couldn’t stop it but to tell me that Ian’s urine volume is just too scary (she weighted all the used diapers). :p
MIL said we should start toilet training him at night. But I just can’t imagine how many times we need to wake him up at night, given his frequency and volume?
Sometimes, he can pee every 10 minutes! Worse than a pregnant lady. :p

same case here, no water no sleep, 2 x 5oz. at least, two diapers each night, but thanks goodness only Isabelle, Annabelle will sip a bit water then go to sleep, wake up pee once at 2am, till morning.
if you got tip how to stop the water ndrinking and peeing at night, please share.
but one thing, if the room got air-con, kids tend to need more water, and they don’t get sick easily.
I’m on the opposite side, Justin doesn’t take much water. Dunno whether I should “force” him or not. But he pees normally lah…not so much like Ian!
jason: hmm… good idea har, maybe can make him make money this way. Hahaha! ($ minded mommy)
egghead:
so, who says breastfed babies don’t like to drink water, hor?
maria: wow, they are toilet trained right? so, how frequently do they wake up at night to pee har? Well, actually I’m not complaining lah, I am in fact proud and happy that he drinks so much water - healthier.
shoppingmum: oh… headache isn’t it? what about giving justin different containers? Some colourful bottles/cups, or fanciful ones with cartoons etc.
Hey, I have the same problem with my 2yrs old son. He is fully breastfed until 10 mths. He loves his water…and can easily drink up to 9oz before sleeps, and obviously no diaper can hold the pee pee.
Can you share how do you toilet train your son? I tried, but is just too cumbersome as he really pee pee very frequent and the mommy got too lazy to keep asking him
Vivian: Oh, I read that boys are harder to train, you really need to sacrifice a lot of sleep. Initially I woke up every 2 hours to wake him to pee.
That’s right, 2 hourly. I ended up like zombie! A lot of patience. Maybe wait until he has dry nappies occassionally, and is more ready?
