Kok Kok Gai

Published by suzette at 11:20 am under All,Ian

If you hear any kid shouting ‘Kok Kok Gai!”, I’m sure you’d think he is referring to ‘Chicken’ in Cantonese.

We thought so, when we heard Ian said that, many times. We didn’t know where he learnt it.

Then on Friday morning after I bathed Ian, when I wiped him, as usual I pointed his body parts and said, “Wipe hair-hair, wipe ear-ear, wipe hand-hand, …”

And when I said, “Wipe gak-lat-dai (armpit in Cantonese)”…

Ian happily responded, “Kok Kok Gai!”

I burst into laughter, and tested him again.

Suz: “Ian, say gak-lat-dai”

Ian: “Kok Kok Gai!”

Suze: * pointed at Ian’s armpit * “What is this?”

Ian: “Kok Kok Gai!”

Aiyoh! Why Ian created all sorts of own language, but so easily misunderstood as something else in our language har? LOL!

egghead: I’m sure your son’s ‘kok kok gai’ is really referring to chicken, but Ian’s ‘kok kok gai’ refers to ‘gat lat dai’, i.e. armpit ler. :( :p
So, your son speaks human language, but Ian speaks his own. :p

      If kok-kok-gai means gat-lat-dai, then quack-quack-quack means?

Kids in the city hardly have the chance to see the “real” chicken……..it’s his imagination when adult show him how chicken looks like……armpit with 2 wings what!!!

maria/mama2jojo: no ler, I don’t think so. He just can’t pronounce it correctly. When I asked him to say ‘armpit’, he could asy it more accurately. Similarly to ‘gong-gong’ he also calls him ‘dong-dong’.

      king’s wife: hahaha! don’t think dirty. :p

leecs: don’t worry of him missing ‘two’, Ian sometimes gets lazy and skip 8 and 9 too! :)
