Ian’s Young Uncle

Published by suzette at 3:20 pm under All,Miscellaneous

Last week, Ian has just got a new uncle – a newborn uncle! And this uncle is 1 year 5 months younger than Ian! That’s funny isn’t it?

Well, I do know someone who found out from a family gathering that, a 70-year old man called him uncle 叔叔, and he was only 20 years old then. Family is such a miracle, isn’t it?

My youngest uncle, that is my mother’s youngest brother, has just got married last year, and my auntie just gave birth to a baby boy last week.

Well, until now we haven’t seen this baby yet. He is still hospitalized. We do not know what happened to him. His head has a scar after born, and the scar got inflammation causing high fever.

Because my uncle doesn’t speak English, it is so difficult for him to find out more detail. I guess the hospital wasn’t very helpful too. We do not know how the baby got the scar, and what treatment he is receiving from the hospital except 2 jabs a day for 5 days.

My cousin told me that my uncle was ill treated by the staff as well. First of all, the regular gynae went on holiday, and got a replacement. And then my aunt tried pushing the baby for some time and failed, needed to do C-sec.

The worst part is, the anesthetician (what do you call the guy who gives anesthetic?) asked my auntie in Hokkien whether she wants local or general anesthetic, but my aunt can’t speak Hokkien (she only speaks Malay and Hakka). So, my uncle tried to help and asked the differences between the two. But this anesthetician refused to talk to my uncle and continue asking my aunt again. When my uncle asked him again, he shouted at my uncle that he would only say it once and wanted him to decide quickly, without explaining further.

And when the doctor walked in, he complaint to the doc in English pointing at my uncle.

Sigh! I pity my uncle, because he doesn’t know English at all! And this is happening in a private hospital. Sad, isn’t it?

Anyway, the baby will be discharged tomorrow. We will be seeing him! My Ian boy will have a few-day-old-uncle (表舅)! Yeah! :D

BTW, really hope this doesn’t affect my aunt’s breastfeeding attempt – she is now at home trying to express to keep the stimulation, but unsuccessful because she uses a lousy pump!
