Suffering From Teething (Part 2)

Published by suzette under All, Breastfeeding, Brfg: Others, Ian

I think Ian’s gum infection is infectious. I have been continue breastfeeding him, no stop. And last few days, I noticed one blister on my right side. The next day, there were additional 2 blisters on my left side. They look just like the ulcers in our mouth, deep round shape and very painful.

I ignored it in the past few days, and it has scarred. But this morning, it turned worse because when I was feeding Ian, the scar was terkopek (pulled away). I felt sharp pain in the midst of feeding. When the session ended, I found the blister’s hole is deepened, enlarged and it was bleeding.

This is the worst pain I had, I even bit myself to withhold the pain, leaving a deep teeth bite mark now.

DH asked me to wean Ian completely at this stage.

One part of my heart says no, but the other part says yes. I am struggling. Oh God! Please give me the wisdom to decide!

Update:
Err! As I examined myself just now, the 4th blister is forming on the left now! I have 3 at the left side. Errrkkk! Very painful!

Suffering From Teething

Published by suzette under All, Ian

From last Tuesday (20 Sep) till Monday (26 Sep), total of 7 days, Ian had some fever, from 38 to 39 centigrade.

On day 3, we visited our family doc, and diagnosed as teething. He was having swollen gums due to too many teeth popping out at the same time. There are around 8 teeth, including those already popped out and not yet, making their ways out from Ian’s gum.

Twinsmom asked whether Ian has any of the following symptoms:

  • Swelling and bleeding gum
  • Bad breath
  • She was so right about it. Ian was actually having some gum infection, a side effect of his teething. Many mornings there were blood on the pillow, bolster and bed-sheet. His bad breath was so bad that I almost throw out. :p

So, I brought him to see the doc again yesterday. According to the doc, if the fever is gone, Ian would have won the battle and there is no need to start antibiotic now.

In fact, our doc is very careful in prescribing antibiotics. He doesn’t simply give until there is really no choice. We trust him, and in fact I had not taken any antibiotic myself for the past 10 years or so.

This time, he gave me some daktarin oral gel to rub on Ian’s gum. Daktarin is actually an anti-fungal cream, used to treat thrust, but have some anti-bacteria effect. It is very mild, and doc said to use for 5 days and monitor.

BTW, Ian refused to eat and drink. The only thing that he is comfortable to have is — breastmilk! But… sob, sob, I had stopped expressing in the past 2 months, supplied diminished. :( Now, the only way to make him eat/drink is to force food into his mouth using a syringe. Poor baby… he lost so much of his weight now.

I hope he gets well soon, and be stronger in the future. Why so many babies sick lately (read belacan, egghead, shopping mum)?

    Bubble Bubbling Ian

Published by suzette under All, Ian

Last Sunday, after Ian’s afternoon nap, at around 5:30pm we went to Shanon’s birthday party. It was an outdoor party, which we could do barbecue and stuff. We only stayed for a while as we need to rush for another round of dinner – my father’s birthday dinner. :)

Since it was an outdoor party, there was a young lady blowing bubbles at the garden. Ian and another 3-4 little girls (wow, Ian got so many girl friends huh!) were standing there, trying to catch those bubbles.

But perhaps due to Ian’s sickness, he wasn’t as active as usual, and he was sort of like lazy too. He just stood at the same spot, waiting for the bubbles to be near him, and then only he caught them. Different from the other girls, he kept searching for the source, and tried to grab the source (the loop) rather than chasing after the floating bubbles.

I think Ian is a born mechanics. When he grabbed the source, he would study it and tried to shake and do many stuff to the thing. At home, nothing can be truly child proof. He can even open my front-loading washing machine – he found the childproof latch!, and tried to go inside the drum. Really a headache to me. :D

Anyway, back to the party. The apartment is actually located at Pantai Hillpark, and the garden is facing the Twin Tower – well, one side of it, which we can only see one tower (another one is blocked).

When we showed Ian the Twin Power, he was excited at first and then asked DH, ‘One more? One more?’ Hehe, he actually can recognize the Twin Tower and can say it though not accurately: “Tin Ta, Tin Ta”.

Poor Ian’s fever just subsided only yesterday. In total, 7 days of fever. We can almost confirm it was caused by teething. His gum is still bleeding and he also has an ulcer on his tongue. He keeps crying and pointing at his mouth. He is on hunger strike too. We have to pour food and water into his mouth otherwise he can be not eating and drinking for the whole day. I just hope this can be over very soon.

    Kid’s Songs

Published by suzette under All, Ian

I have been listening to so many kid’s songs, together with Ian.

Whenever the VCD Barney & Friends is playing, Ian would want me to watch with him. And he would dance or jerk his body when the songs played.

I listened to so many of these songs now, so many that I AM HUMMING THEM EVERY MOMENTS!

I can’t believe that I actually hum and sing the Barney’s songs in the bathroom, office, meeting room, etc. I even had the songs played in my mind when I was in bed!

I am poisoned by Barney & Friends now.

“Oh where, oh where has my little dog gone?
Oh where, oh where can it be?
With the ears so short and the tail so long,
Oh where, oh where can it be?”

“There was a farmer had dog and Bingo was his name oh!
B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, B-I-N-G-O, and Bingo was his name oh!”
(Ian always claps his hands when it is played or when I sing it)

“Dang-dang-dang-dang-dang…” (just the tune from Winnie The Poo theme song)
And Ian always dance when he hears this…

Oohhhhh! What’s wrong with me? I am singing these songs all time all day, and I am blogging about them now? Oooohhhh!
