What Has Our Government Done With The Haze?

The haze has been here since last week or earlier.
The haze was here, around the same time EVERY YEAR.
The haze is now getting worse. It is even worse than its worst in 1997.
And we know that the haze can cause cancer.
There are so many people fallen sick because of it.

What has our government done so far? Planting rain seeds which doesn’t help? Banning open burning (only now?)? What else?

We were just asked to wait. Waiting for what? Isn’t the situation is already bad enough? What else do they expect it to be? Until someone die as a result of breathing in too much bad air?

Even if that happens that someone dies because of the haze, I’m sure they will want to wait for postmortem to confirm it is due to the haze. That will take another few weeks.

“The Government will not declare a state of emergency as long as the API does not reach the 500 level,” Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Adenan Satem said.

We thought 301-500 is already dangerous? Why must they wait till it goes beyond 500?

We really want to know what our government want us to do, and what other steps they will take in this kind of crisis. Not just to reduce the pollution from other sources, please. We want something more immediate – evacuation or some immediate actions to clear the haze?

Basically, we want fresh air.

Note: As I was writing, news that our government declare emergency just came in. But what they are doing is just: closing schools, advising us to stay indoor and wear masks and rain-seeding. That’s all. Very disappointing. It is said that we can’t do anything else because the source is from Indonesia. I still think there should be more things to be done.

Staying indoor? Don’t they know that even in closed air-cond room we still get burnt smell? I start to wonder if these people are not staying anywhere near to the affected areas.

‘We are now in a state of emergency,’ a National Security Council official told Agence France-Presse after the environment department said the air pollution index had reached 529 in Port Klang and 531 in Kuala Selangor.

kcyap: thanks for pointing out the spelling mistake. Paiseh! Now corrected liao.

Papi: you are right. Some more, what is meant by ’state of emergency’? There is not clear guideline. Emergency or no-emergency also the same.

egghead: *softly whispering* yes, i secretly also hope for that… hehehe.
BUT… no ler, I am taking leave tomorrow just to get away from work.

Twinsmom: That’s the point that I tried to write in my last part of post. The definition is unclear to me. Emergency or no emergency, they had already closed down school, asked us to stay indoor and wear mask, started rain-seeding (with no results). These are the 4 things mentionedi n the press. The just declare only. No action. Geram!
