Saying Bye-Bye to Breastfeeding
Early this month, I blogged about wishing to quit expressing in the office. After discussed with MIL, I dropped the idea and continue to express – only once a day in the office.
However, yesterday I did my gynecology check-up, and discussed about trying for 2nd baby. Doctor asked me to stop breastfeeding, because it will release a hormone that contracts the uterus and make it hard to conceive.
So, today will be the first day I stop expressing. It is kind of a relief as I am very tired of this. But on the other hand, I am not ready to wean Ian completely. He just loves it so much. When I reached home yesterday, he cling on to me and said ‘nan-nan’… He lay down quietly next to me and waited to be nursed. He is such an active baby, and his only quiet time is when he is nursed. I see his adorable face in my arms and enjoying his fix. He would close his eyes, and swing his legs, pull my shirt… I just love this wonderful moment. This is kind of ‘Me and Ian Time’, which no body can share.
I really don’t know how to completely wean him off later. It is such a difficult process for both of us. Not only difficult for him, it is difficult for me as well. To stop expressing is easy, but to stop nursing Ian directly is hard.
I wonder how other nursing mothers can get pregnant and continue to nurse their toddlers. Why they have no problems as what my doc told me?

may be you want to talk to the mothers to do tandem nursing?
lzbone…that’s because I think most docs want to be on the safe side. If you are willing (go to mymomsbest la for more info), continue nursing your Ian. I’m doing it, and I’m sure Bea1 will surely wean herself one day. At the moment I’m happy nursing 2, and looking forward to the 3rd one. I know for some people it is crazy, but for me…I’m enjoying it as long as I can, and it saved me from sadness of having to wean her by let her decide when the time comes!
twinsmom: like who? mama22beas?
mama22beas: I guess doc wanted me to stop mainly because I am getting more and more unfit lately. Ever since Ian was born, probably I don’t get enough food (can’t be munching all days when I work), and lack of sleep, I lost so much of weight. Before this, I rarely get sick - not even once a year. But now, I almost fall sick every once a month, and it is getting more and more frequent - also harder to recover. Probably seeing this, I am asked to stop bfg - even my family is concerned about my health. I don’t think it is solely bfg’s fault, more of lack of rest. Sigh, don’t know what to say about this. All my fault.
Auntie Lazy Bone,
Since I don’t use Thunderbird, therefore, I can’t give you an exact instruction on how to use the RSS feed inside Thunderbird. However, I assume that it is the same as FireFox.
Open your Thunderbird/FireFox.
At the bottom right of your screen, there should be ONE icon if the page has RSS feed. Try test it out with your blog.
If you see an icon, move your mouse over it and see whether it will appear a sentence that says “SUBSCRIBE TO RSS…”
If yes, then just click subscribe.
If there is more than 1, other than RSS like atom, RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, choose either one and it will be fine.
If it is not working, perhaps you can try blogrolling or other internet software that has similiar functions.
Hmm, if still cannot, you got to ask Twinsmom already.
By the way, bout the computer security thingy, there is a way to unluck the code by logging into the computer as administrator.
(That’s if your company did’t password-ed that administrator account.)
Jason: thanks for the detailed instruction. Actually I don’t use thunderbird as well - just saw it from TM’s comment in your blog, so asked. Re the computer security thingy, yup my company’s IT is very smart, they also PW the admin account ler. I can’t even update my real player, so can’t even watch movies that my husband downloaded. So frust!
lzbone…yeah, tandem nursing is not for everyone, so I’m also not comforatble suggesting to every mother who is not ready to wean her child yet. As for myself, I thank God that I’m generally healthy and never had complications with pregnancies.
If weaning has to be done, then I wish you all the best. I’m always amazed by your determination to give the best to Ian. And seriously, think you should really take care of yourself.
mama22beas: Hi! there, I was just reading your comments again in MMB about nursing during preg. Thanks a lot for your encouragement. I have decided:
- to take good care of myself
- to pick up more exercise
- to do some research on nursing during preg
- discuss with doc about my research, and seek his approval. (if I do get pregnant!)
Ultimately, doc has to say ok, otherwise I know it is hard to convince my family - DH and MIL. I’ll pray hard.
Thanks for the support and encouragement!
I did consulted doc about this too..and of coz I’m scare something happen again lah..
Dor told me now can continue nursing wor..until I get pregnant baru wean SQ slowly wor..and she said is no problem for conceive during bf, as long as menstrual is return wor..
msau: sigh, my doc doesn’t support this. actually he doesn’t support nursing when pregnant, so he said I shud start weaning, so by the time i preg should be just right time woh… And I quite like this doc, so don’t want to change as well. I’ll try to discuss with him again, if I successfully get pregnant lah! Now no point worrying yet.
Hmm, I will see whether is there any way to crack the password anot. Perhaps, unmask the password.
