Breastfed Babies Don’t Like to Drink Water???

Who said breastfed baby doesn’t like to drink water? When this person said this, does he/she also infer that formula fed babies like to drink water?

I can proof these people wrong. Ian has been 100% breastfed, without any supplements – not any single drop of water, until he was about 5 months old when I started to introduce some rice cereal to him. He enjoys drinking plain water and would drink a lot at one go.

I have never compromised by giving him any sweetened drinks like what other mothers did, e.g. Ribena, sweetened barley drinks, honey water etc. I was lucky that Ian accepted plain water well.

I noticed quite a lot of other babies who were formula-fed: all dislike plain water. I was told when my DH and BIL were small, they also disliked plain water – both of them were formula fed!

So, my conclusion is, whether or not baby likes water, it is all individual preferences. Please don’t blame it on breastfeeding!

msau/twinsmom: Dunno why many people think our bm is very sweet, hence they think if bb used to sweetness will refuse to drink plain water. When they say that, I think they don’t drink cow’s milk - to me it is a lot of magnitude sweeter than bm! Right?
